Audio Guide Description
Herculaneum, once entombed under 20 meters of volcanic mud from Mount Vesuvius’ 79 AD eruption, stands today as the world’s most pristinely preserved Roman city. Join Context Travel expert Roberta Meomartini on an immersive audio guide through this ancient time capsule, where the echoes of Roman life linger in astonishing detail.

Your adventure begins at the entrance of the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum, descending into a site where streets, homes, and shops have defied two thousand years of history. Roberta unveils the secrets of this affluent coastal retreat, spotlighting its advanced waterworks and bustling trade. You’ll encounter rare treasures—carbonized wooden relics, delicate textiles, and vivid frescoes—each offering a vivid glimpse into the past, decoded through Roberta’s expert lens.

The Herculaneum audio guide concludes outside the Antiquarium di Ercolano, a compact museum brimming with artifacts that bring the story to life.

During this hour-long tour, you’ll:
• Wander the Palestra, a sports ground where Romans once unwound before visiting the Grande Taberna tavern
• Peek into a thermopolium, an ancient “fast-food” joint with intact counters and jars
• Marvel at the suburban baths’ clever heating and dazzling mosaics
• Admire the House of Neptune and Amphitrite’s dazzling mosaic artistry and garden murals
• Reflect at the old shoreline, a haunting reminder of the residents’ desperate flight
• Investigate the House of the Deer and Casa del Bicentenario, decoding their owners’ status through design
• Savor Herculaneum’s intimate scale, revealing Roman habits in ways larger Pompeii can’t

By the end, you’ll grasp the ingenuity of Roman engineering and the poignant human tale preserved here, enriched by ongoing discoveries that continue to illuminate this ancient world.
