Liz, a native of San Francisco, California holds degrees in architecture from the University of California at Berkeley and Università degli studi "La Sapienza", Rome.
She specialized in restoration and urban design. Her restoration projects have brought her to work in direct contact with the rich historical layers of Rome and Italy. She has been leading study walks for Context Rome since its beginning and has lived in Rome since 1988 practicing architecture, researching design and lecturing at university study abroad programs.
We had a wonderful tour with Liz. My spouse and I are visiting Rome with our 9yo son and our 2yo twin daughters. Liz was very understanding about our being late to meet up due to logistical issues, and she made a great effort to engage our son in the ancient history of Rome and make vivid how people lived.
Liz was absolutely terrific! First, I learned so much about Caravaggio and really appreciated that she talked about the contemporaneous accounts and records that provide us with the information we do have about his life. Additionally, she really helped contextualize Caravaggio in the history of art (specifically Italian art), the history of Rome, and the Papacy. Her incredible knowledge of the city and its long history was a bonus on top. I recommend her incredibly highly!!!!
Liz is an excellent guide. We embarked on a customized tour of the works of Caravaggio in Rome and it was perfect. We requested a tour to view as many paintings by Caravaggio as possible and along the way we had a great lesson in the history of his time. Liz was attentive to what we already knew and what we wanted to experience on this tour. We had a great day exploring Rome with her.
